Stoughton's Chrystal Holland and Mackenzie McGrath were part of the gold medal winning Southeast girls' basketball team at the 2012 Summer Bay State Games, held this July.
The Southeast team beat the Metro team, 74-60, in the gold medal game on July 15 at the Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Holland and McGrath both played key roles on the Stoughton High girls' basketball team this past winter season, helping lead the Black Knights to a 13-6 regular season record and berth in the state tournament. Holland graduated this past June with the class of 2012, while McGrath is set to start her senior year in September.
The Hockomock League was well represented on the Southeast team at the Bay State Games, with Sharon High's Katie Lowerre and Canton High's Olivia Murphy also on the roster. The Southeast team was comprised of top local high school talent from the region.
Holland scored 15 points in the gold medal game, including 8 in the fourth quarter.
Other Stoughton athletes taking part in the 2012 Summer Bay State Games included Scott Camuso-Sullivan and Robert Mone in wrestling; Kyra O'Neil and Andrew Liu in swimming; and Chrissy Hrenko in track and field.
Hrenko, 26, came in second in the women's javelin throw (111' 3").
According to the Bay State Games media guide, "the Summer Games is Massachusetts' own Olympic style athletic competition that has been held since 1982 and features more than 7,000 athletes in 29 sports. Athletes represent over 300 Massachusetts communities, and
participants range in age from 6 to 86."
