Stoughton MOMS Club Hosts Souper Bowl Food Drive
Leading up the Sunday’s Super Bowl, cans of soup are collected for the Ilse Marks Food Pantry in Stoughton.
Alissa Porcaro and more than 20 MOMS Club of Stoughton members gathered at the Stoughton Public Library this past Wednesday to host their own version of the Super Bowl.
Theirs, spelled Souper Bowl, was a canned soup food drive for the Ilse Marks Food Pantry in Stoughton.
While this is Porcaro’s first year hosting the event, she has participated in a similar food drive for years with her church, Our Lady of Sorrows in Sharon.
She shares, “My church has been doing this for many years (even when the Patriots are not in the Super Bowl). I have collected soup from friends and donated for many years but this is the first year I did an actual event.”
Porcaro said the event, which included a story time and coloring activities, a success, with the group collecting more than 40 cans of soup.
Porcaro also helped organize a can drive with Mrs. Jacobs’ first grade class at the Dawe School.
'The Stars of Room 14' held a Souper Bowl party and collected 30 cans of soup for the Isle Marks Food Pantry while showing their support for the Patriots on Friday.
“It is very important to me to teach children early that giving back to our community should be something we do all the time, not just special times of the year or at Christmas. I want my children and others to know that by doing something as simple as bringing soup or food to the food pantry helps out others in need,” Porcaro said.
“By starting young and setting an example yourself is the best way, in my opinion, to do this.”
