UPDATE: Stoughton High Volleyball Draws Notre Dame in First Round of State Tournament

Stoughton (10-8) earned the 10th seed in the MIAA Girls’ Volleyball South Division 1 bracket and will play 7th seeded Notre Dame Academy (Hingham) Friday afternoon on the road.

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) released their state tournament brackets for girls’ volleyball Wednesday evening, and for the first time in the program’s four-year history, Stoughton will be part of the postseason mix.

Stoughton will travel to Notre Dame Academy in Hingham on Friday, Nov. 4 at 4 p.m. for their first round matchup in the MIAA Girls’ Volleyball Division 1 south sectional bracket.

The Black Knights finished the regular season at 10-8, earning the 10th seed in the 12-team bracket. Notre Dame Academy (13-6) earned the 7th seed.

Originally this match was scheduled to be played at 7 p.m., but Stoughton High Athletic Director Ryan Donahue asked for a time change. The football team hosts Foxboro in a pivotal Davenport Division game Friday at 7 p.m. and Donahue wanted students and administrators to have the opportunity to support both teams.

Donahue gave Notre Dame Academy credit for being amicable to the time change.

The winner of Friday’s volleyball match will travel to #2 North Attleboro on Nov. 8 for a quarterfinal match. The top for seeds in the South Division 1 bracket (#1 Barnstable, #2 North Attleboro, #3 Brockton and #4 New Bedford) all earned first-round byes.

Stoughton clinched a spot in the tournament on Oct. 21, following a win at Sharon. The team earned its tenth win of the season on Tuesday against Fontbonne Academy on Stoughton’s Senior Night to conclude the regular season.

The 10 wins this season are three more than the program had in its first three years (7)—combined.

Stoughton is led by a core of four seniors who have been with the team from the beginning—Julia Quattrucci, Katherine Chlus, Malykah Lopes and Andrea Chica. Other key contributors include seniors Nobrina Seng and Anthony Jeudy and juniors Nicole Daniels and Emma Zuk.

The complete Division 1 south sectional bracket is posted in the media gallery above.
