With the team’s fifth place showing at states in the fall season, the Stoughton High cheerleaders had already qualified for a trip to Nationals in Orlando at the end of March.
But the team has kept earning honors in the winter season leading up to the national competition in Orlando.
This past Sunday, March 11, the SHS team came in second at the state competition in Lowell, finishing behind only first place David Prouty High School (Spencer, MA).
Stoughton placed ahead of both Bristol Plymouth Regional and Norwood, the only schools to finish ahead of Stoughton at this winter season’s regional competition, held the weekend prior to states.
Stoughton got to celebrate its second place finish in the state with a trip to the TD Garden on Monday, March 12 to cheer on the Division 2 South Sectional Champion SHS boys’ basketball team in their state semifinal game with Brighton (pictures are posted in the media gallery).
The SHS cheerleading squad heads to Nationals from March 22-26. But before departing for the Sunshine State, Stoughton will compete in the New England tournament Saturday, March 17 in Lawrence.
