Stoughton Clergy Gathers for Thanksgiving Tradition

The Stoughton Clergy Association presented its annual Stoughton Community Thanksgiving Service Tuesday night.

Amid the hectic time of Thanksgiving, Rev. Rebecca Cho of Stoughton's United Methodist Church reminded those in attendance Tuesday night at the Stoughton Community Thanksgiving Service to stop and be grateful for what they have in their lives.

"Take time to think about what we are grateful for," Cho urged those in attendance. "Let's watch the gratitude of Thanksgiving spread all around us."

Cho told the story of taking her 3-year-old daughter to Sunday School at their church, and the teacher asking her student was she was grateful for that week.

When a teenager filled in for the teacher, he asked the same question of Cho's daughter.

"It was being passed person to person," said Cho. "A life in gratitude can be spread."

This year's service was conducted at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ and is sponsored by the Stoughton Clergy Association and area congregations.

Taking part in the service were Rabbi Sylvan Kamens; Rev. Jean Niven Lenk of the First Congregational Church; Rev. Luz Celeniar Tirado of SolAmor Hospice; Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz of First Parish Universalist Church; Rev. Stanley Schultz of First Baptist Church; Rev. Father Joseph McDermott and Rev. Alexander Oketch of Immaculate Conception Church; and  Rev. Rebecca Cho and Rev. Sunmin Cho of First United Methodist Church.

The offering collected during the service was donated to the two food pantries in Stoughton.

It is always good that we should remember to be thankful for the blessings and the good health that we have in our lives. Clergies usually will lead these celebrations and it is always a blessing for us to be able to attend.

This was a great event, as it is every year. A chance for Stoughton residents to come together, no matter their background, and celebratre Thanksgiving, the holiday we all observe as Americans.
