Heading into their game at Oliver Ames on Thursday, the Stoughton High boys' varsity basketball team was a perfect 4-0 on the road, including a win in the finals of the Holliston Holiday tournament.
It took an overtime period against O.A., but the Black Knights kept the streak going, winning 77-74 to improve to 5-0 on the road, and 5-1 overall on the season. Aaron Calixte led the way with 31 points against the Tigers and Kris Joyce added 24, with the duo scoring 71.4 percent of Stoughton's points.
Stoughton will now look for their first home victory of the season this week, but not before looking to extend the road winning streak to six. The Black Knights travel to Mansfield on Tuesday (1/11) and host North Attleboro at home on Friday (1/14).
* The Stoughton High girls' varsity basketball team did not fare as well against Oliver Ames, losing to the Tigers, 64-37 at home Thursday night. Oliver Ames, the defending Division 2 State Champions, jumped out to a 40-18 lead in the first half. The Black Knights weren't able to mount a comeback in the second half.
This week the girls' host Mansfield on Tuesday (1/11) and travel to North Attleboro on Friday (1/14).
* The Stoughton boys' varsity hockey team was riding a three game losing streak heading into their game against Foxborough on Tuesday, but the Black Knights bounced back in a big way, winning by seven goals. Stoughton led 3-2 midway through the second period before putting the game away, scoring five goals in a 3:25 span.
Saturday against Canton, the Black Knights took a 2-0 lead against the defending Division 2 State Champions, but fell behind 3-2 in the third period. Stoughton fought back and tied the game at three, but Canton scored the final two goals of the game to secure a 5-3 victory and avoid the upset.
This week the Black Knights (2-4-0) take on Oliver Ames on Wednesday (1/12) and North Attleboro on Saturday (1/15).
* The wrestling team lost to Foxborough at home on Wednesday, but Travis Demko (152 lbs.) remained undefeated, notching an individual win. Kevin Richards (145 lbs.) picked up the other win for Stoughton.
The team travels to North Attleboro on Wednesday (1/12).
* The boys' and girls' swim teams lost to Canton and Oliver Ames this week, but Chris Pierce and Taylor Goodrich turned in impressive performances for the boys' and girls', respectively. Against Oliver Ames, Laura Howard won the diving event for the girls', posting a qualifying score for sectionals in the process.
Both teams face King Philip on Tuesday.
