Five Things You Need to Know This Weekend: September 17-18

Time line dedication, Girl Scout registration, Stoughton Youth Baseball tryouts, and more...

 

"Five Things you Need to Know This Weekend" is the weekend version of the Patch column "Five Things You Need to Know Today."  The weekend edition provides readers with essential information for both Saturday and Sunday.

1. Time Line Dedication at the Historical Society

Two colorful, illustrated time line panels that capture Stoughton's early history from 1629-1895, will be dedicated on Sept. 18, 2 p.m. at the Stoughton Historical Society at 6 Park St.

Town Manager Francis T. Crimmins, Jr., Town Moderator Howard Hansen and historian David Allen Lambert are scheduled to speak.

2. Stoughton Youth Baseball American League Tryouts

Stoughton Youth Baseball will be holding tryouts this Saturday, Sept. 17 for the upcoming 2012 American League Division. Tryouts will take place on Goff field at the VFW Fields Complex on Elm St.

Tryouts for interested players who will be 11 or 12 as of April 30, 2012 and who are not already in the American League will take place at 4:30pm.

Tryouts for interested players who will be 10 as of April 30, 2012 will take place at 5:30 pm.

All players must attend at least one of the tryouts to be eligible for the American League draft.

3. Stoughton Girl Scouts Registration

The girl scouts will be holding a registration event on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Wales French Room of the Stoughton Public Library. All girls in grades K-12 are invited.

The girls scouts are also looking for adult volunteers. Adults are needed to lead troops, assist with troops or take a more limited role leading a badge or activity. Any adult, including college students are encouraged to join.

5. Hat Fashion Show Extravaganza at First United Methodist Church

The First United Methodist Church (103 Pleasant St. in Stoughton) will host a Hat Fashion Show Extravaganza on Sunday, Sept. 18, from 3 to 6 p.m. There will be models, entertainment and appetizers.
