Car-Theft Behind Olivio's Wednesday Night

Car theft, Police sergeant injured in car accident, attempted murder charge highlight police logs so far this week

Lesson to be learned from car-theft: A "green civic" with an Olivio's Grille and Pizzeria sign on top of the vehicle was stolen from behind the pizza shop Wednesday evening at 8:18 p.m., according to police reports.  Olivio's is located in the downtown area at 752 Washington Street; there are "no leads right now as to where the car is," according to Executive Officer Robert Devine.

"Again, it's another case of safeguarding your things," said Devine, who expressed remorse for a "hard working guy" who had his car stolen.  But, Devine said "crime is someone's desire meeting the opportunity and if you remove the opportunity, it won't happen as much."

Specifically, Devine stressed the importance of not leaving your car unattended while running.  "We've been putting out notices since the weather started getting cold for people not to leave their cars running," he said.

Sergeant Dan McGowan injured in car crash yesterday afternoon: Sgt. McGowan was on his way to Dedham Superior Court yesterday when he was involved in a car accident at the intersection of Central and Canton Streets at 12:47 p.m.

Devine said Sgt. McGowan was "rear-ended."  McGowan was on-duty, but was driving his own personal vehicle to the courthouse.  The exact extent of any injuries is still unknown, according to Devine, but he said that "right now it seems like [McGowan sustained] minor injuries."

He was transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, where he was eventually treated and released, spending last night at his home, according to Devine.  The Brockton Enterprise reports that McGowan is not expected back to work for "at least the next several days."

Stoughton man charged with attempted murder

Steven Lemore, 31, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after a domestic incident at his 226 Pleasant St. home just before 4 a.m. on Tuesday, according to Devine.

Devine said Lemore "threw some things around the house," damaging property in the process, before "jumping on top" of the female victim and eventually starting to choke her and punch her on the side of the head.

When officers arrived, Lemore had already fled the scene, so police took a statement from the victim, but were able to locate Lemore soon thereafter and made the arrest.   He was arraigned at Stoughton District Court later on Tuesday.

Devine said Lemore is being charged with attempted murder, intimidation of a witness and domestic assault and battery. Devine explained the attempted murder charge is the result of Lemore wrapping his hands around the victim's neck and choking her.

Hard to believe that someone would leave a car running and not expect it to be stolen.
