Afternoon Edition: Middle School Hockey Tryouts (And Business Owner Can SCORE Big)

Welcome to "About Town with Mark Snyder," a column that will keep you up to the minute with what's what, who's who and what's going on around town. If you see or hear something we could use here, let us know by sending an e-mail to pmpco@aol.com.

MIDDLE SCHOOL HOCKEY TRYOUTS: On Monday, August 22 and Monday, August 29, from 3:30 - 4:50 p.m. at Asiaf Arena in Brockton are tryouts for the Stoughton Middle School hockey team.

Fifteen players will be named to the Stoughton Middle School Hockey Team. Players not named to the team are encouraged to stay on as alternate players. Alternate players will practice with the team and in the event a player can't make a game, an alternate player will be called to fill in.

Tryouts are free.  Practices begin September 5 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. and will run through April 23. Practices held February 27 through April 23 will be from 3:30 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. All practices are at Asiaf Rink, Brockton High School.

The Middle School Team will be playing in the Foxboro Sports Center Middle School Hockey League, B Division.

This is the first year the league will be a non-checking league. Non-checking does not mean no contact. Games will either be Friday or Sunday nights, played at the Foxboro Sports Center, Raynham CDL Arena or Iorio Arena in Walpole.

The season will consist of 25 games, including at least 3 playoff games.

Players named to the team will have three payments of $225 for $675 total. Payments are due September 15th, October 15th, and November 15th. Players named as alternates will pay $300; this includes all practices (33) and any games the player will be called to play.

Friends of Stoughton Hockey (FOSH) is the organization that supports the Middle School Hockey Team. All players are expected to participate in the fundraising that supports our team and keeps it affordable.

Tryouts are open and competitive, players previously on the team are not guaranteed a spot on the team. All players should come to the rink ready to compete for a spot on the team, according to Coach Buddy O'Neil.

ATTENTION BUSINESS OWNERS: SCORE knows business owners are extremely busy. You have lots of responsibility, making it difficult for you to get away from your business for a meeting.

That's why SCORE offers "House Calls," a special program for in-business clients. Rather than scheduling an appointment at one of their offices, SCORE counselors will meet you at your place of business at a mutually convenient time.

Not only does meeting at your place of business save you time; it allows SCORE counselors to get a first-hand understanding of your business and provide feedback that can help you grow your business.

To schedule a "House Call" appointment at your place of business, call 781-775-2226 or email jcolantuone@verizon.net.

A SCORE counselor will set up a meeting at your place of business at a mutually convenient time.

This is from Southeastern Massachusetts SCORE.  It stands for Service Corps. of Retired Executives, and is a FREE service.
