ABOUT TOWN: Take Part in Jingle Jog to Help Support Stoughton Woman Battling Cancer
Welcome to "About Town with Mark Snyder," a column that will keep you up to the minute with what's what, who's who and what's going on around town. If you see or hear something we could use here, let us know by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
A JINGLE JOG! Jog a mile to ring in hope and support for a Stoughton woman battling cancer (Hodgkin's Lymphoma). It happens on Saturday, December 15, with check-in at 1:30 p.m.
The jog will be held at the West School Athletic Complex, at 1322 Central Street. Bells will be given to each participant, so you can jingle while you jog, and purple ribbons to symbolize Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
There will be raffles, playground fun for the kids, hot chocolate, snacks, and more fun! Cost is $20 per person or $35 per family. The 1-mile jog/walk starts at 2 p.m.
All proceeds will benefit Erica Ebner, a 28-year-old long time Stoughton resident who was recently diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
After months of chemotherapy, surgeries and a hopeful outlook, we are saddened to find the treatments have not worked and the cancer has spread.
She has a tough road ahead as she prepares for a much needed Stem Cell Transplant. Erica is strong and has a wonderful positive spirit. She is ready to continue to fight her cancer and needs our help!
Erica Remy of Stoughton's Old Colony YMCA told About Town, "Suzanne Legros (co-chair) is Erica's childhood friend. She really spearheaded this effort. [Ebner] was a hairdresser at Club Ten X in Canton. She can't work anymore and the procedure costs $100,000. I'm trying to use my resources from the Y. She's a Stoughton woman and I'm hoping the community will turn out to support her.
"The Stoughton Recreation Department and Mr. [John] Denison were so nice. They waived the fee for us. They want to make sure this event is successful. She's seeing specialists at Beth Israel who are doing their best to help her," Remy continued.
"She's young and strong and we know she can win the battle. She has an amazing spirit. When she got the bad news after her scans, she was disappointed. But, she has just reached out to people who have fought the same battle. She (and we) feel she can win. She has amazing support," Remy said.
If you can't participate in the walk, you can still help Erica win her battle. Donations may be made online at www.youcaring.com (just use keyword: Ebner Family Event.) You can also mail your donation to: Rockland Trust, 608 Washington Street, Stoughton MA 02072. Make checks payable to: Ebner Family Event. Any amount is greatly appreciated!
