ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FORUM IMPRESSES AT THE JONES: With many choices for private and parochial schools, the Stoughton Public Schools were holding their third Showcase (following ones at the O'Donnell Middle School and Stoughton High) to interest the public in their schools.
This showcase, held Monday evening, February 13 at the Jones Early Childhood Center, featured the elementary schools and preschool program.
Gibbons School Principal Lynne Jardin, Dawe School Principal David Barner, Hansen School Principal Faye Polillio, South School Principal Maureen Mulvey, West School Principal Brendan Dearborn and Jones Early Childhood Center ("The First Steps to Discovery") Principal Heather Tucker were all on hand to answer questions from parents of potential students in their school's coverage area.
Tucker, who also serves as Administrator of Special Education, was there to answer questions about the myriad of programs for those with individual education plans.
There was no central area here, as there were at previous Showcases. Principals and teachers were available in different rooms to answer questions, and information was distributed at tables throughout the Jones.
There were also details available regarding the Preschool at Stoughton Extended Day. This program, which began in 1989, now includes ages 15 months to pre-kindergarten.
They offer full and half-day programs at the Jones Early Childhood Center, and are licensed through the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).
Full-day programs, for those working towards being toilet trained and socially ready for independence, are offered from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Half-day programs are 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

TRASH TALK: On Monday, February 20, there will be no curbside trash collection in observance of Presidents’ Day. Trash collection for Presidents’ Day will be scheduled for Tuesday, February 21 in addition to the regular Tuesday collection.
This is standard procedure for any holiday.
Recyclables must be separated (newspaper and flattened cardboard in one container and bottles, cans, and plastics in another container). All rubbish and recyclables must be curbside by 7 a.m. on your collection day.
No barrel over 30-gallon size will be emptied. Large household appliances (metal items) must be called into the Public Works for appointment for pickup. TVs and computer monitors cannot be picked up curbside. They must be brought to the Transfer Station (open Saturdays 8-5).
This trash talk is brought to you by John Batchelder, Superintendent of Public Works in Stoughton.
