ABOUT TOWN: Lost Dog; Fire Chief Ceremony; Iran Talk (And More...)

Welcome to "About Town with Mark Snyder," a column that will keep you up to the minute with what's what, who's who and what's going on around town. If you see or hear something we could use here, let us know by sending an e-mail to pmpco@aol.com.

MISSING DOG!!! Leo, a Boston Terrier, was last seen on the corner of Cedar Street and Ash Street, near the South School. He is loved by his owner Shauna and her family. She tells About Town that he is eight years old and had never run off before.

"We have three dogs and a fenced in back yard. He knows where he lives and he hates the cold. It's bizarre."

Let's see if one of our astute readers can help! If you find him, call 781-344-7527 and ask for Shauna.

DIABETES CLINIC: I have seen the devastation that Diabetes can cause, like the stroke my mother suffered as a result of her uncontrolled condition. Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Stoughton Public Health and Visiting Nurses Association, Stoughton Council on Aging, and Good Samaritan Medical Center are sponsoring a workshop on how to live healthy and strong with Diabetes.

The event will take place at the Stoughton Senior Center at 110 Rockland Street.

There will be something for everyone, even if you are newly diagnosed, caring for a loved one, or someone who is well versed in the Diabetic arena. Health care professionals will be there discussing tips and tricks, on knowing your nutrition numbers.

Presentations on diabetic foot and skin care will be addressed by Dr. Scott Aronson, a Podiatrist, as well as with nurses from the Stoughton Public Health and VNA. The Old Colony YMCA/Stoughton Branch will be demonstrating different exercise programs that are recommended for those with Diabetes. Nutritionists will be available to answer any questions, and a light lunch will be provided.

IRAN & THE BOMB: The Ahavath Torah Congregation Speakers Series resumes Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with internationally-renowned Investigative Journalist Ken Timmerman.

Ken’s topic will be “The 12th Imam, Iran and the Bomb.” Ken is one of the leading experts on Iran’s drive for nuclear capabilities, missile delivery systems and the Christian communities of Iraq, Egypt and Lebanon.

Ken spent 5 months in a Palestinian jail in Lebanon, an experience which gave him a bird seat view of the intra-Arab, inter-Arab and Arab-Israeli conflicts.

Suggested donation is $10.

Ken Timmerman is one of the half-dozen true experts on the Islamic Republic of Iran in the U.S. today. Prominently featured in the recent documentary, “Iranium,” he heads the Foundation for Democracy in Iran. FDI is the only group among all those with Iran-related programs that works actively and closely with the pro-freedom movement inside Iran.

Ken has spent much of this summer (2011) meeting with Iranian dissidents in Europe, and regularly briefs the U.S. intelligence community on their activities and beliefs. Ken has also been the lead investigator for the “Iran links” lawsuit by families of 9/11 victims.

He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize along with John Bolton for his work on Iran in 2006, and won the Reed Irvine Accuracy in Media award for investigative reporting in February 2011.

More information on him can be found at www.kentimmerman.com. His foundation’s website is www.iran.org
