ABOUT TOWN: Easter Eggs, Debates and Retirement Parties

HAPPY BIRTHDAYS: To Rick Kaplan, immediate past Chairman of the Board of the Stoughton Chamber of Commerce. Rick is the CEO of AT&T/Cellco, which has phone stores in Massachusetts and Florida. The closest is in Avon, near the Christmas Tree Shops. Rick is a Randolph native who now resides in Stoughton; To Jack Raeke, a Commercial Sales Executive at Malcolm and Parsons Insurance Agency in Stoughton. He is the lead singer of The Standards, and has been extremely active in youth sports in town;

To Lester Davis, owner of All Care Home Health Service in Stoughton. He is a member of the Stoughton Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and is a past president of the Stoughton Lions Club; And To Chrissy McGowan, a broker at John Russell Insurance Agency in Stoughton.  Chrissy is married to Stoughton Police Sgt. Dan McGowan.  

THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE DEBATE:  Get an education on the Stoughton Public Schools Thursday night (tonight!) with the only debate with all the candidates for School Committee. Incumbents Dr. Erdem Ural and Deborah Sovinee, and challengers George Dolinsky and Jeffrey Benson squared off in the first community production at the studios of SMAC (Stoughton Media Access Corp.).

EASTER EGG HUNT!  Yes, it's that time again, kids!  Your Stoughton Community Events Committee presents the on Saturday, April 9. As in the previous three years, the event will be held at the Cedar Hill Golf Course, 1137 Park Street on Rt. 27. The event begins at 11 a.m. SHARP.

Don't be late, or your children may not be able to participate.  Don't bring your own Easter Basket.  The SCEC will provide each child with a bag. Get a free picture of the kids with the Easter Bunny! They will be provided once again by our good friends at Walgreen's Pharmacy. AGREEMENT REACHED TO CONSERVE GLEN ECHO POND PROPERTY: The Trust for Public Land announced yesterday that an agreement had been reached to conserve a 96-acre property along Glen Echo Pond in Stoughton. The private property was once a popular tourist destination and resort but has been closed to the public for many years. If protected, it would open up access to nearly half of the Glen Echo Pond shoreline. At May's Annual Town Meeting, voters will be asked to approve up to $2,050,000 in Community Preservation Act Funds to fund the acquisition and future management and recreation improvements of the property.
 
IT'S A RETIREMENT PARTY!   Celebrate Fire Chief David M. Jardin's 38 Years of Service to the Town of Stoughton. It all takes place on SATURDAY, APRIL 16, 2011. Cocktails start at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m.   The party is at the beautiful Shaws Center, 1 Lexington Place in Brockton, adjacent to Marciano Stadium, where the Brockton Rox play.
