1. Candlelight Vigil for Shayla Lutz

The Hansen Elementary School PTO has organized a candlelight vigil to honor the life and memory of Shayla Lutz, the three-year-old Stoughton girl who died Friday, September 14 shortly after she was struck by a box truck in front of the Hansen School. 

The vigil will be held this Friday, September 21 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Hansen School field, behind the building. Candles will be provided.  All members of the Hansen School and Stoughton communities are invited to participate, as are family and friends of the Lutz family.

2. Stoughton High Football Home Opener

After starting the season with road wins at Holliston and at Taunton, the Stoughton High Football team returns home for its opener, hosting Pembroke, a Division 3 playoff team from a year ago. The game is Friday, September 21 at 7 p.m.

The Stoughton High senior class (Class of 2013) will be running a dunk tank fundraiser during the game.

Senior Class co-advisor Tim Norton will be dunked pregame and in the first quarter; Assistant Principal Hope Fernandes in the second quarter; Assistant Principal Mike O'Neil at halftime and in the third quarter; and new Principal Julie Miller in the fourth quarter.

A single throw is $1; five throws are $3; and 15 throws are $10.

The senior class will also be holding a 50/50 raffle during the game - $2 for one ticket; $5 for three; and $10 for an arm's length worth of tickets.

Regular admission to the game is $6 for adults and $4 for students, but elementary school students will be able to get in for $2 for the home-opener. Those children playing pop warner or flag football who wear their jerseys to the game will be able to get in for just $1 all season.

3. Kiddie Academy Harvest Festival

On Saturday, September 22 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., join Kiddie Academy in Stoughton (1202 Washington St.) for a Harvest Festival, which will include bike races, pumpkin decorating, face painting, pumpkin bowling, scarecrow making, potato sack racing, games, treats, prizes, and more!

4. Bob’s Famous Foodmart Holding Annual Kid’s Day, 5K Run This Sunday

Bob’s Famous Foodmart’s 8th Annual Kid’s Day and 3rd Annual Bob DiMatteo Memorial 5K Run (and 3-Mile Walk) takes place Sunday, September 23.

All the fun takes place, rain or shine, at Bob's Famous Foodmart's parking lot on Park St. from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sunday, with parking available at Farley Funeral Home across the street (358 Park St.).

• At 9 a.m. there will be a free 1-mile fun run for kids.

• At 10 a.m. there will be a 5K run and a three-mile walk (you can register here: www.bobsfamous.com).

• The Kid’s Day follows, which includes mini-races and an obstacle course at 11:30 a.m. There will also be a dunk tank, child quest ID’s and fingerprinting, a fire engine, face painting, bake sale, hot dogs and sausages and a raffle (held at 1:30 p.m.).

Proceeds from the Kids Day and 5K Run will go towards funding two Stoughton High scholarships; helping a local family affected by cancer; and benefiting Stoughton Fire Safety, Stoughton Police Explorers, Blue Dog Shelter and the Stoughton Youth Commission.

The Prone Family Foundation will be matching the funds raised during the race that will go towards helping a local family affected by cancer.

5. Ghost Riders Will Ride Again

On Saturday, September 22nd, the Ghost Riders will ride again, here in Stoughton.

After almost 30 years since their last performance, Stoughton resident Roy Cohen is bringing his old band back together to perform on the set of his local access Community Forum show. The public is invited to watch the taping, which will take place at the SMAC studios at 421 Page St. in Stoughton at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Ghost Riders play music from the 50s and 60s.
