"Five Things you Need to Know Today" is a Patch column that provides readers with essential, daily information at a glance.
1. Water Main Work in North Stoughton
Originally scheduled for Nov. 16-17, but postponed, water main work in north Stoughton will now take place this weekend.
This Friday, Nov. 30, Turnpike St. (Route 139) will be shut down between Page St. and the Pleasant St./Turnpike St. intersection starting at 7 p.m. until the evening of Saturday, Dec. 1.
Detours will be sent down Maple St. and can back up, so please seek alternate routes.
The road closure is a result of work being done on a 24' main in North Stoughton.
The DPW reminds residents that starting at 10 p.m. on Nov. 30 through noon on Dec. 1, the North Stoughton area, from Turnpike St. at Pleasant St. to the Canton, Avon and Randolph lines will experience low water pressure and possible water discoloration. If your water is discolored during this time, run the cold water for few minutes to run it clear.
2. Road Inspections
The Stoughton DPW informs residents that BETA Engineering Group will be in town for about a month taking pictures and measurements of streets in Stoughton to get a better sense of what condition Stoughton's roads are in. The name of the inspector is Mathew.
3. Stoughton Master Plan Forming Focus Groups
The following is from the Stoughton Master Plan Committee:
The Master Plan Committee wishes to thank all the residents and businesses in the Town for their participation in the Master Plan Public Forum that was held on October 15. Your participation and opinions were invaluable to the development of Phase 1 of the Master Plan.
As we continue our work on Phase 1, your continued involvement is crucial to the success of our project and we are now asking you to participate in a Focus Group of your choice.
The purpose of a focus group is to share ideas among participants in the identification of key issues, goals and strategies. The topics of the Focus Groups are as follows: Open Space/Recreation, Transportation, Town Image, Public Infrastructure, Downtown, Schools, Energy & Sustainability and Healthy Community.
If you are interested in joining a group, please contact Noreen O’Toole, Town Planner, by November 30th at email@example.com or call 781-232-9201.
4. Stoughton High Girls' Soccer Fundraiser at the Chateau
The Stoughton High girls' soccer team is having a fundraiser at the Chateau on Park St. in Stoughton on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012.
Come enjoy lunch or dinner (from 11:15 a.m. until close) on 11/29 and the Chateau will donate 20 percent of your bill to SHS girls' soccer.
Print the ticket posted in the media gallery, and present it to your waiter or waitress when you pay the check.
Only one ticket per group is needed. It’s good for both dine-in and take out orders (781-341-2503).
5. Reminder: Thursday is Food Pantry Day in Stoughton
Stoughton resident Peg Carbone continues her effort to curb hunger in Stoughton, personally picking up donations for the food pantries every Thursday.
Here's a note from Peg: "I pick up non perishable food and also household items every Thursday, anywhere in Stoughton and deliver them to the food pantry. Please tell your friends and neighbors. One item, one bag or several, and I will pick them up every Thursday."
Haven't called to arrange a pickup? It's not too late. Call Peg at 508-889-1385 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
