1. Public Hearing Scheduled for Improving Stoughton's Town Meeting
A public hearing is scheduled by the Board of Selectmen's Town Meeting Subcommittee for Thursday, July 19 at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall (third floor, Great Hall) to discuss possible ways to improve Stoughton's Town Meeting.
2. EEE Update
According to a release from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, "an additional 10 communities in southeastern Massachusetts will receive aerial spraying of pesticides against mosquitoes, bringing the total number of communities in the spraying zone to 21. Spraying is scheduled to begin on the evening of Friday, July 20 after dark, and will continue on the evening of Saturday, July 21, weather permitting."
Originally spraying was set to start next week, but after additional infected mosquitoes were found in Easton on Tuesday and in Rehoboth on Wednesday, the spraying date was moved to this week.
Stoughton is NOT on the list of communities scheduled to be sprayed. No EEE samples have been found in Stoughton, and the threat of mosquito-borne illness remains "moderate" in town.
The list of communities that will be sprayed include: Acushnet, Berkley, Bridgewater, Carver, Dighton, East Bridgewater, Easton, Freetown, Halifax, Hanson, Kingston, Lakeville, Middleborough, Norton, Pembroke, Plympton, Raynham, Rehoboth, Rochester, Taunton, and West Bridgewater, according to the Mass DPH.
3. Thursday's Weather Forecast
After dealing with the heat and humidity, temperatures are set to cool off a bit.
According to AccuWeather's website, temperatures reached the 90s in Stoughton for six out of the last seven days.
Thursday will reach the low to mid 80s. Friday and Saturday will reach the upper 70s. It will be partly to mostly sunny over the next few days.
4. Danny's Tavern - Book Launch & Discussion
Meet Dr. Tom Melvin P.E, is a local author and resident of Stoughton who grew up in Dorchester. He published Danny’s Tavern and will be speaking about it at the Stoughton Public Library (Wales French Room) Thursday, July 19 at 6 p.m.
5. Stoughton All Comers – Summer Track Meets
Join Michael Baugh at the Stoughton High track on Thursday nights this summer for fun, exercise, and competition. An experienced track coach, Baugh will instruct children in a different track and field skill each week and conduct some races. This is a no pressure learning experience that will introduce your child to the sport of track and field.
The fee is $2 per race or three races for $5.

BONUS: Thursday is Food Pantry Day in Stoughton
Stoughton resident Peg Carbone continues her effort to curb hunger in Stoughton, personally picking up donations for the food pantries every Thursday.
Here's a note from Peg: "I pick up non perishable food and also household items every Thursday, anywhere in Stoughton and deliver them to the food pantry. Please tell your friends and neighbors. One item, one bag or several, and I will pick them up every Thursday."
