Stoughton Girl Scouts to Hold bridging Ceremony at Faxon Park
Registration for 2011-2012 is Now Open
Girl Scout Troops of all ages will come together on Saturday, June 11 for a town-wide ceremony to “Bridge” or “Fly-up” to the next age level. The Ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. in the gazebo in Faxon Park. Fall registration will also be taking place for any girls interested in joining Girl Scouts.
As Girl Scouts progress through the program, they have the choice to either “fly up” to the next higher level, which happens automatically, or to go through the requirements of earning a “Bridging” badge. The Bridging badge requires the Scout to spend time with girls in the next older Troop to learn about the expectations of that level. They also have the opportunity to complete activities at the older level as they complete the process.
“We’ve been holding a town-wide bridging program at the end of each school year for about four years now,” said Charlotte Mullen, Stoughton Service Unit Coordinator.
“The girls really enjoy coming together to plan the ceremony and to execute the meetings required for earning their Bridging badge. It’s a wonderful way for the girls to make friends outside of their school district or sports team and to celebrate their accomplishments,” Mullen continued.
Stoughton troops are now accepting registration for next year’s Girl Scout program. The fee is $12 for the entire year.
A table will be set up at Faxon Park on Saturday where registration materials will be made available. A fall registration event will also take place at the Stoughton Public Library on Saturday, September 17, 2011 for anyone unable to make Saturday’s program.
The rain date for the ceremony will be on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at 2 p.m. in Faxon Park.
