All members of the Maintenance Department staff at New England Sinai Hospital were honored as the hospital’s March Employees of the Month. They were recognized for their herculean efforts to keep Sinai rooftops safe in January and February when more than 100 roofs collapsed across Massachusetts with 40 on the South Shore alone. The staff worked tirelessly to remove snow and ice from the hospital’s flat roofs and supervise part-time staff that came in to assist. They did so, while also continuing to keep the hospital’s roads, walkways and parking lots clear and safe.

Sinai President & CEO Judith C. Waterston noted that when the maintenance staff finished working straight through double and triple shifts with little or no sleep, they then went home to clear their own driveways and paths. “Throughout those eventful weeks, they continued to graciously and efficiently complete their daily work orders and ongoing maintenance projects in a business as usual manner.”

Michael Mondoux CFM, CHSM, Sinai Director of Support Services, said, “At Sinai, patient safety is paramount, so these are the people you want. They spring into action and put Sinai first. For them, priority one is safety. I’m proud of what they did to get the job done.”

For their extraordinary efforts to keep Sinai safe, the Maintenance Department deserves the honor of being named as New England Sinai Hospital Employees of the Month.

The Sinai Employee of the Month is chosen from nominations made by hospital staff, patients, and family members. Nominees demonstrate a "Sinai Cares" philosophy in their everyday work lives and are known for a high level of service, integrity and leadership. A committee of administrators and employees makes the final selection from those nominated.
